DJ Zita (real name: Maritez) spins a variety of musical styles ranging from conscious/underground/old school hip-hop…to original breaks and beats...to 70’s, 80's, and 90’s classic joints…to deep, soulful, funky house…to classic reggae riddims...to the sexiest chilled-out downtempo and R&B beats. She is a lover of soul, funk, and jazz. Her passion about the music is obvious when you witness her spinning; she is often grooving along with her mix. Zita has become known for her innovative style, smooth mixing, creatively-crafted versatile sets, and rockin' the dancefloor. DSC03353.JPG Zita has been a disciple of music for as long as she can remember and was born to DJ—her very first turntable was a brown plastic Fisher-Price record player. As she grew up, she started collecting cassette tapes and CDs, and she has nine years of training in various forms of dance. It wasn’t until she learned how to mix records in 2000 that she discovered her natural ability behind the decks. From that point on, her ever-growing vinyl music collection was born… She is one of the four founding members of Hawaii’s first all-female DJ collective, “Sisters in Sound.” She has spun alongside internationally known artists including Mark Farina (OM Records), Miguel Migs & Lisa Shaw (Naked Music), Shortkut (World Famous Beat Junkies), Q-Bert, Kemal (Cryptic Audio), Quartz (Break Beat Science NYC), Sake 1 (Local 1200), and Mystic. Now residing in San Francisco, California, Zita is currently sponsored by two San Francisco-based clothing companies: Mama Clothing and Mixerfriendly. She flies back to Hawaii regularly to spin at Girl Fest Hawaii, Rebel Girl Underground, and her fellow Sisters in Sound events. DJ Zita has recorded several CDs in which she seamlessly mixes various shades of downtempo, hip-hop, and/or deep house: Contagious, Night Flight, Blu Soul, One, Mama Mix 1, and Mama Mix 2. www.djzita.com Visit DJ Zita's Website.
