Ms. Angel has a love of music that began as a small child singing with her parents in church. She was first introduced to house music in college, when she began to attend raves and nightclubs. She was drawn to the way that house music embraces different musical genres, blurring the boundaries of race, class, and religion through music. DSC03322.JPG She began collecting vinyl and learning to spin records in 2000. By fall 2001, she had her own radio show at University of Hawaii college radio station KTUH. By 2003 she had solidified her format as all things house. Along with her co-host Haboh, Ms. Angel continues to do the only all-house show in Hawaii, featuring live mixes every week from local guests like the Sisters in Sound, DJ Dawn, Fez, Archangel, and Daniel J as well as out of town guests including B McCarthy, JT Donaldson, Jay-J, DJ Garth, Cory Wells, and many more. In addition to doing the show, she has played at one-offs and parties all over Honolulu, and held a residency at the now defunct Maze nightclub. She has also played several times for the successful Rebel Girl Underground parties. In 2003 Ms. Angel joined Honolulu’s first all-female dj crew, Sisters in Sound, and has since spun at SiS parties including Isis, Escape, and Sweet! In 2005, she held a residency at Get Fresh! at Indigo with her co-host Haboh. She has played at the Living Room and Next Door and for the past two years, she has held a weekly residency at the best place to find house music in Honolulu on a Sunday night, Casa at Bliss Cafe. Ms. Angel began by playing deep house, but she is drawn to many different sounds in house music. Her tastes are diverse and include jazzy, soulful, jackin’, gritty, and everything in between.
