Marlo Muñoz AKA DJ Marloca first mixed 2 pieces of vinyl together as a DJ on the college radio station at UC Santa Barbara in California. A couple years later at a night called Sense-o-round at the Cafe du Nord in San Francisco, Marlo started spinning records in nightclubs. Through this gig, Marlo started spinning at lounge and exotica gigs around the city ending with her monthly installment at the Beauty Bar in the Mission District. DSC03395.JPG In a parallel dimension, Marlo diversified and began spinning styles ranging from old school hip hop and new wave to experimental electronic and electro to underground hip hop and always back to old school flavors. One of her favorite gigs was at The Attic where collaborations with her partners DJ Monkey, Flint and various guests always boiled up a beautiful sonic chaos unparalleled in the natural world. In 2001 Marlo picked up and moved to Hawaii. Through the magic of Quadmag.com, Marlo met many new friends. It was out of these friendships that the Sisters in Sound were born. Regular gigs include Isis at Auntie Pasto’s, Escape at Indigo and now Sweet at Kai on Makaloa Street near Ala Moana Center. Marlo has made guest DJ appearances at numerous events around town, is involved with the annual Girl Fest events and can be found pursuing dope beats and lyrics of all kinds whenever possible.
